Cashew nut kernels processed in Benin
Afokantan Benin Cashew, SA. (ABC) is located just outside Tchaourou (600 kilometer North from economic capital Cotonou), in the North of Benin. The processing plant was built in 2006 with the support of the Dutch Department of Economy (Agenstschap NL) under its PSOM programme. ABC started processing in January 2007 and now employs 300 people.
With an annual production exceeding 65’000 Mtons, Benin is the tenth largest producer of Raw Cashew Nuts. It is estimated that over 95% African RCN’s are exported in shell, in particular to India and Vietnam. ABC is the only processor in Benin which is producing raw cashew kernels in bulk for the export market.
