Projects in Ghana
In Ghana, WBI is focusing on the local grown products such as cashew, palm and shea. In close cooperation with the local partner West African Market Links (WAML), businesses are set up and strategies are implemented to enhance the rural value chain.
WAML is registered in 2001 and operations became more and more serious in 2006. WAML trades in palm kernels and adds value by processing the palm into palm oil (CPO & PKO). The processing is done at the two factories in Kade and Assin. Furthermore, there is extensive trading in cashew, shea and ground nuts. All together, more than 16,000 farmers and their families benefit from the work executed by WBI-WAML.
During the years, a broad network is build up with amongst others farmers groups, local government and NGOs. Farmers are trained and experiences are shared to ensure a reliable supply and quality products. Village initiatives are supported to contribute to a safer and cleaner environment.
In 2009, a transport company named Odometa, is set up to provide transport services for national- and international companies in the country. Odometa is based in Tema.
